Free Form Optics Advantages
Free Form designs open new and exciting possibilities in the design of PIR optics. This allows the Fresnel facets to be placed at their optimum focal length and orientated normal to the detection direction to reduce lens aberrations. Simply put, lenses can be produced that are more sensitive and aesthetically attractive.
Free Form Optics – A whole new generation of products are now possible.
Patented Free Form Fresnel (FF) technology ensures the lens detection zones are undistorted and highly focused for a higher resolution and more reliable zone sensing.
Using Free Form Fresnel (FF) lens technology, it is now possible to produce high performance flat lens arrays, which previously could only be achieved in 3D formed lens products.
In the past it was only possible to maintain zone definition by tilting the Fresnel facets, meaning that the lens had to have a 3D appearance. Using this new lens facet design, it is now possible to create a more aesthetically pleasing flat lens, which can be flush fitted into low profile wall and ceiling mounted housings.
Increased sensitivity and range
Conventional lens design

In many cases it now becomes possible to also design flat lenses with a similar or better performance than conventional domed lenses
Free Form Fresnels allow for more control and optics can now be optimised for much more sophisticated applications

Much more sophisticated applications are now possible by using multiple detectors, multi-

Using the Free Form Fresnel non circularlysymmetric lens forms, not only can the geometry be corrected but it has beenproposed that the shape of the detection zones may be also be asymmetrically changed.
This could allow spatial filtering of the detectedtarget with elongated or even shaped detection zones.
